Gender inequality is still a huge issue today, where males are considered superior to females.
•Some women had to fight to vote, for equal pay and to have male dominant jobs, but still have lower income, fewer prestigious jobs and more likely to live in poverty than men.
•it is actually overgeneralized beliefs about what men and women are like and what traits and behaviors are expected of them or considered appropriate.
• It can limit the development of natural talents and abilities of girls and boys. Women and men as well as their educational and professional experience and opportunities in general life.
•In educational context, gender stereotyping cause female students to be seens less talented than male students in all areas of sciences.
Actually female students have higher grades in medical studies. Gender stereotype not only influence the perceived potential of men and women when they are being selected for career but it also impact how the work actually performed by men and women is rated and valued.
As mentioned above women are less likely than men to be selected for promotion and prestigious jobs.
HOW STEROTYPING DEVELOP
We just learned our children that woman job is just to cook, clean all households. They learn that girls can play only with dolls, kitchen sets etc. And boys will only play with the things like cars gun etc. The girl made an association between cooking cleaning and serving being a woman.
The boy made an association between being served, bossing around others being a man. It is classical conditioning. This is observation learning.
Boys are punished for crying . He learns that boys should not cry because it is sighn of weakness and that girls are weak. They rewarded for strong works like lifting weights and everybody praises you for being strong.
On the other hand girls are punished for going out to play, she learns that its okay for boys to go outside and play but not for girls. Boys are physically and mentally strong while girls are not much physically and mentally stronger than boys, just because of these society behaviors.
People share a common nature but are trained in gender roles
Gender stereotype is wrong when it results in violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
